Timothy Waema

Timothy Mwololo Waema, a University of Nairobi professor has been appointed to Equity Bank as a non-executive Director. Timothy Waema is a professor of information systems in the school of computing and informatics with extensive experience in strategic Management. He holds a Ph. D in strategic management from the University of Cambridge as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Bath United Kingdom.

The professor has 25 years’ experience in ICT for development in fields including education, government, agriculture, financial services among others. He has been a consultant to government agencies and non-governmental organizations particularly in formulation of strategic management frameworks as well as execution. He previously occupied the offices of Director ICT and head of department school of computing and informatics at Chiromo based University of Nairobi. He currently seats in the boards of a number of private and public sector organizations including at the advisory Board of Carnegie Mellon University Rwanda.

He brings on board his immense experience the public and private sector across Africa. Equity Bank Kenya Limited is a financial services provider, currently ranked as a tier 1 bank that is headquartered in Nairobi Kenya. It is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya. Ambassador Erastus Mwencha the current EBKL chairman expressed his gratitude and optimism while welcoming the accomplished scholar to the Banks Board.

His immediate assignments will be around oversight and leadership in streamlining the Banks operations amid the effects of COVID 19. Professor Waema expressed his plans of leveraging ICT to exploit opportunities brought about by the pandemic. He will be a great resource in spearheading the Banks digital agenda.

Professor Timothy Waema has mentored a number of students who are currently holding key positions in major companies within and outside Kenya. His knowledge is indirectly being applied to make a business great as well as providing some competitive edge. Equity Bank Kenya Limited is lucky to have him.
