The Standard Group PLC and Kenya’s media fraternity is in mourning following the death of a young journalist in a grisly road accident.

Richard Omondi Were died on Wednesday, December 9, in the accident that happened along Mombasa Road when he was on his way to work.

Standard Group PLC Human Resource notice to the staff indicated that Were, 27, was working as a graphic designer in the TV production department.

“It is with sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved colleague the Late Richard Omondi Were who until his death was a Graphic Designer in the TV Production and Programming Department,” read the HR communique.

According to the company’s human resource, Were was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Were, born in 1993 joined the Standard Group in February, 2015 as an intern in the TV graphics section.

Courtesy of his diligence, the young journalist was employed as a graphic designer in the same department.

“He has worked with diligence and dedication. Please, let us remember his family in our prayers,” the communique stated.

The demise left Were’s colleagues including News Anchor Akisa Wandera in shock.

“Another one from the newsroom bites the dust!! 😭💔💔 2020 should just end already,” Wandera posted on Facebook.

  1. Why are these reckless drivers claiming the lives of such innocent souls instead of exercising caution on the roads! Were is my younger brother back here in Western. He has died at the peak of his career; it’s so sad.
