The Council of Governors (COG) has proposed for the return of the 9pm to 4am curfew in a bid to counter rising cases of COVID-19.

The county chiefs have recommended that President Uhuru Kenyatta who is set to address the nation next week to consider increasing curfew hours from the current 11pm to 4am to 9pm to 4am.

Speaking during the COVID-19 summit on Wednesday, November 5, the county chiefs led by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said the revision of the hours would reduce risk of virus spread.

Their proposal comes just a day after Kenya Medical Association (KMA) asked the government to ban all public gatherings and reintroduce bar activities which are usually more during the night.

Uhuru has a tough choice between reintroducing the restrictions that have adverse effects on the economy to reduce the virus spread and reviving an already hurt economy.

A section of Kenyans blasted the move by the governors saying it was illogical to reintroduce a curfew at a time politicians were moving around and exposing more people to the virus.

Kenyans urged the government to consider banning political rallies that are filled with people rather than reintroducing time restrictions.
