There are number of cloud storage options available on the market with a number still coming up. This article identifies common cloud storage options that are also available to the public.

Dropbox

This a nice cloud file storage option due to its reliability, ease of use, and a breeze to configure. Files reside within the cloud and can be retrieved any time from the Dropbox website and support all operating system platforms.

The cloud file storage service is quite simple and designed elegantly making it so easy to use.

Dropbox is operated similarly across all operating system platforms.

Its desktop applications are compatible with most computer file systems.

Cons

There are no provisions to change how you want your stored files to be displayed.

Google Drive

This cloud storage system integrates office tools with drive storage

It includes a spreadsheet application, a word processor as well as a presentation builder.

Pros

It is easy to edit files using Microsoft applications such as Excel and Word from OneDrive.

It is compatible with windows based devices since it is developed on a Windows operating system platform.

Cons

The automatic file organization feature provided by OneDrive does not always place files in the right folders.

Amazon Cloud Drive

This service is provided by Amazon for users to store photos, music, videos and other files.

It has a storage services specifically tailored for storage of photos and another for other files.

Does not provide free storage

Pros

For those who already have accounts with Amazon, they are not required to create new accounts.

Cons

It does not allow uploads for files bigger than 2GB.

Files can only be viewed through the Amazon Cloud Drive website.

The desktop application is only used for uploads and downloads and not compatible with file systems.

Box Cloud storage

This is an online cloud file storage for private and business use.

It allows for users to shared and edit files stored within the cloud.

Provides up to 10 GB of free storage.

Pros

It can be accessed using various platforms

It gives provisions for users to select files to be sync automatically.

It copies files stored on the cloud to all devices connected to the user account.

Cons

It only syncs to a specific file within the users device a folder preserved for Box files.

It requires some experience and training to use effectively.

Of all the above alternatives Google Drive cloud storage is the best option.

It provides up to 15GB of free cloud storage.

It is also compatible to almost every platform.

Furthermore, it provides room for scalability in case there is need for additional storage at a cheaper price.
