Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has appointed his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba commander of the country’s Special Forces Command (SFC).
Muhoozi is a Lieutenant General and this appointment means he will be in charge of the elite squad tasked with protecting the president.
The elite unity is also responsible of protecting the immediate family of the president alongside national installations like oil mining fields.
This appointment coming at a time the country is about to conduct a General Election has raised eyebrows especially from the Opposition.
In another appointment, Museveni installed Maj Gen Paul Lokech as the new deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP).
These appointments shuffled the army and Uganda Police Force.
Lokech, was a key member of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) commander.
Lokech now replaces Maj Gen Muzeyi Sabiiti.
Sabiiti, until his appointment as deputy IGP over two and a half years ago was the deputy of Muhoozi at the Special Forces Command (SFC).
Observers have termed the move as Museveni’s unwavering determination to cling to power and extend his 34 years as Uganda’s president.
This comes even as the Opposition led by National Unity Platform’s Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been facing a hard time in the hands of police officers.
Bobi Wine’s rallies have been more than once disrupted by police with several citizens and his supporters killed.
