According to the Ugandan police, the ill-fated vessel embarked on its journey from the picturesque Kiseba Islands, with its intended destination being Katosi in the Mukono district. However, amidst the vast expanse of the lake, a catastrophic incident occurred between the locations of Jana and Kimmi, plunging the boat into treacherous waters. Regrettably, the precise time of the accident remains undisclosed at this time.
Amidst the turmoil, a glimmer of hope emerged as six individuals managed to be rescued by another passing transport boat. However, the heart-wrenching reality remains that five people are still unaccounted for, prompting the deployment of police marines who are tirelessly engaged in a comprehensive operation to locate and bring them to safety.
Adding to the sorrow, a strikingly similar tragedy unfolded just the previous evening, when yet another boat, this time transporting a crucial load of foodstuff from the idyllic Kasi islands to the aforementioned Katosi in the Mukono district, succumbed to the unpredictable forces of the lake. Onboard this vessel were a man and a woman, who faced an altogether different fate. Tragically, the woman lost her life, succumbing to the unforgiving depths of the lake, while the man was fortuitously rescued by compassionate fishmongers.
Prompted by these successive calamities, the Ugandan police, after diligent investigation, have ascertained that the primary causes of both accidents can be attributed to two critical factors: overloading and the adversities posed by inclement weather conditions. As a stern and heartfelt response to these harrowing incidents, the police are fervently appealing to all individuals who partake in water-based transportation to prioritize their own safety above all else. They stress the importance of wearing life jackets and adhering to recommended vessel load limits, thereby reducing the risk of such catastrophic accidents that result in the loss of precious lives.
