Somalia has reopened its embassy in Nairobi 26 years after it was shut due to diplomatic disagreements and political instability.
Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ababu Namwamba termed the development a symbol that both Kenyan and Somalia governments were committed to enhance bilateral relations.
This will not only boost trade but is perceived as an indicator to amicable dissolution of the oil blocks row between the two countries.

Somalia and Kenya will also work together to solve the former’s internal problems and stabilise it.
“This will enhance durable peace, viable stability and sustainable development,” Namwamba said.
Namwamba termed the move a great step towards reconstruction of Somalia.
“Standing here, looking at this gleaming building, I don’t see just a fresh office block. I see a symbol of Somalia rising to from ashes back to greatness, like the proverbial Phoenix†he said.
Peaceful Somalia
Namwamba assured that Kenya would continue to support the Somalia state re-building effort to ensure a peaceful, secure, stable and prosperous Somalia and Horn of Africa region.
“Our common endeavour for durable peace, viable stability and sustainable development for both our peoples and region continue to underpin the necessity for our mutual cooperation†the CAS added.
Kenya’s UN Security Council Position
According to Nawamba Kenya would champion for Somalia’s needs courtesy of its tenure as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council 2021/22.
Embassy Location
The current Somalia Embassy buildings are located along lower Kabete Road and had been by Somalian government in 1972.
The premises had not been used since 1994 when Somalia sunk into an abyss.
