Raphael Dwamena

Ghana International Raphael Dwamena’s story is a difficult one, despite numerous warnings to quit football because of his heart condition, he refused to give up his passion.

Sadly he passed on in the field as his team Egnatia played Partizani on the 23rd Minute.

He story adds to that of Mark Vivian Foe of Cameroon who also passed on in a football pitch.

Dwamena’s breakthrough came when he made the move to European football. He joined the Austrian club Austria Lustenau in 2016. His performances there caught the attention of scouts and paved the way for a move to the Swiss Super League.

Notable Spell with FC Zurich:

In 2017, Dwamena signed with FC Zurich in Switzerland. During his time with Zurich, he showcased his goal-scoring abilities and became a key player for the team. His performances were not only crucial for FC Zurich’s success but also earned him recognition at the international level.

Medical Concerns and Failed Moves:

In 2017, Dwamena secured a move to English Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the transfer faced complications due to concerns raised during his medical examination, leading to the deal being called off.

Despite the setback, Dwamena continued his career in Switzerland with FC Zurich, contributing to the team’s efforts in both domestic and European competitions.

Ghana National Team:

Raphael Dwamena has also been a part of the Ghana national football team. Representing one’s country is a significant achievement for any player, and Dwamena has had the opportunity to wear the Ghanaian national team jersey in international competitions.

Dwamena previously collapsed in October 2021 during a match between his then team Blau-Weiß Linz and Hartberg in the Austrian Cup, but recovered and returned to action.

Death:

While statements on the circumstances of Dwamena’s death are still scanty, video appears to show him collapsing on Saturday in the 24th minute of an Albanian top division match between Dwamena’s team KF Egnatia and Partizani while the match was at 1-1.

Video, shows Dwamena collapsing on the pitch, before players from both teams rushed to his side. He was then attended to by medical personnel as an ambulance was brought onto the pitch.
