Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama is dead.
The governor who has been ailing from COVID-19 and was admitted for close to a month in a Nairobi Hospital breathed his last on Friday, December, 18.
Kennedy Ongaga, Nyamira’s County Director of Communication confirmed the governor was unwell and in hospital on Wednesday, December 9.
Nyamira Deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo while delivering a speech by Nyangarama last week said that his boss was down with flu, but was recuperating well.
The sad news comes barely few days after rumours of Nyangarama’s death surfaced online earlier in the week ignititing tension within Nyamira county leadership.
His family had dismissed the rumours saying that the governor was recuperating well at Nairobi Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
Nyamira County Secretary James Ntabo had on Tuesday, December 15 called on residents to remain calm amidst worry about the governor’s health.
