Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Dr Gitonga Mbaka says he has forgiven combative Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha for abusing him in public.

Mbaka said he had let the matter pass and wants to retire peacefully in 2021 when his time in public service will come to an end.

“I have forgiven the CS and I’m focused on serving the country as I prepare for my retirement in March 2021 after over 35 years of service,” Daily Nation quoted Mbaka.

Magoha has hit the headlines in the recent past for all the wrong reasons after he was captured on camera giving Dr Mbaka a dressing down.

The viral video captured at Langas Primary shows Magoha calling Mbaka “Mjinga” (an idiot) after the latter failed to explain lack of compliance of a learning structure.

The incident irked many in the education sector, Kenyans online and more across the public sector.

Teachers’ unions like Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) even called on Magoha to eat the humble pie, apologise and resign over the gross act.

Magoha has remained defiant and given the matter a wide berth albeit in a thin veiled statement indicating he is not perfect but would not alter his on site leadership style.

Mbaka on the other hand, a quiet scholar who is due to retire in March 2021 after 35 years of service has let the matter pass saying he already forgave Magoha.

The incident caused a storm in the executive prompting the Public Service Commission (PSC) to clip Magoha’s powers of managing human resource.

These powers were delegated to Principal Secretary of Basic Education Dr Belio Kipsang.

Magoha however, seems unmoved by the PSC circular saying he will continue to discharge his mandate fully as given by his appointing authority.
