Kakamega: Mautuma Sub-County Hospital Rejects Medics Transferred from Lumakanda

A section of residents of Lugari sub-county in Kakamega have rejected deployment of new health workers to a key facility despite shortage of medics.

The residents of Mautuma ward have rejected clinical officers and nurses from Lumakanda Sub-County Hospital from reporting to Mautuma Sub-County Hospital.

In a notice seen by Trendingleo.com, the residents said that the community would not allow the medics to commence serving the public owing to their past records.

“These medics have been transferred from Lumakanda in a move to improve service delivery there. Those being seconded to come here have a history of lack of diligence and we will not allow individuals who have been rejected in Lumakanda to come and endanger our people’s lives,” Sylvia Kavai a local said.

The residents said that their rejection of the medics was not based on tribal or community inclinations but service delivery assurance.

“Some of those medics have been adversely mentioned in the fatal maternity cases in Lumakanda. We have a shortage of medics but it’s even worse to accept deployment of staff who hardly show up at work,” another resident added.

They called on Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa to review the move and deploy reputable medics to the facility.

Mautuma sub-county hospital was recently on the spot for lacking electricity connection for over one month after a Kenya Power transformer malfunctioning.
