The CS also clarified that Grade Four and incoming Form Ones will stay at home when other learners will be completing their Third Term in 2021.

Magoha indicated that all four-year-olds were required to join Pre-Primary Education (PPE) One in July 2021.

Grade Four and current Class Eight students reopened in October to progress with their second terms that had been cut short with the closure caused by a surge in COVID-19 cases.

On Tuesday, October 6, Magoha announced that a section of learners in basic learning institutions would resume learning in a phased reopening programme from October 12.

“The progressive re-opening will start with learners in Grade Four, Class Eight and Form Four who shall report back on Monday, October 12,” Magoha said.

The decision was reached at following a directive by Uhuru during his 12th presidential address to the nation on the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday, September 18.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Prof. Magoha said the progressive re-opening will begin with students in Grade 4, Class Eight and Form Four who are expected back to school from Monday, October 12.

“The Ministry of Education notifies the public that progressive re-opening of schools will begin with Grade 4 (Competency Based Curriculum Class), Class 8 and Form 4 on Monday, October 12,” read the ministry’s circular.
