Mike Sonko: Nairobi governor arrested, detained by police officers
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested in Nairobi, today Monday, November 30.
The governor was detained by police officers who lobbed teargas canisters in a bid to disrupt a meeting he was holding with city MCAs at Office Park Nairobi.
The embattled governor who signed to transfer some of his functions to the national government under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) is facing impeachment.
Nairobi County Members of County Assembly (MCAs) file an impeachment motion against the governor last week.
Sources privy to the happenings claimed the meeting whose agenda is still unknown was hosted at the home of Nairobi tycoon Paul Kobia.
The governor was later released after a brief detention with authorities indicating the meeting attendants failed to comply with COVID-19 containment measures.
