TikTok could soon be Banned in the United States of America

President Donald Trump on Friday disclosed his plans to Ban TikTok in America. Trump also disclose his plans to order the Chinese based technology company ByteDance to Divest its ownership of TiKTok. In a rejoinder, ByteDance has also responded that its willing to oblige to Trumps calls, as reported by Reuters.

Banning of TikTok will simply escalate the trade wars between Beijing and Washington, with politicians around the US fearing that China could exploit the application to spy on US citizens or simply spread propaganda so as to influence US presidential elections. In addition to Trumps, concerns, tow senators had already requested the Justice department to commence investigations of TikTok together with Zoom which have connections to Beijing.

India was the first to ban TikTok just last month as well as several other Chinese developed applications after tensions between China and India on its borderline. Despite TikTok vehemently denying any security threats, the Trump administration is considering its options on taking action against it.

US Tech Giant, Microsoft has been in talks with ByteDance regarding its acquisition of TikTok. A representative of TikTok said that the company does not comment on rumors or speculations but its confident on the success of TikTok in response to Trump threats. Microsoft has so far not provided any response.

If ByteDance divest in TikTok and Microsoft succeed in acquiring it, it would then put Microsoft in charge of protecting US citizens data on TikTok. TikTok has gained massive prominence over the past year globally and is popular among teenagers and content promoters. With Trump concerns, Microsoft might succeed in controlling TikTok operations in the US while ByteDance retains ownership in other countries.
